Students selected to present at the summit will compete for an internship with the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia in Summer 2025.

Undergraduate students should prepare a one-page research proposal (see details below) that explores the following question:

How can a distributed energy resource (DER) contribute to achieving a sustainable and equitable future in the District of Columbia?

  1. A clear explanation of your research topic, to include the significance  of DERs in the District of Columbia
  2. Evidence, such as case studies, to support your research topic
  3. Note special challenges and opportunities for using distributed energy resources (DER) in the District
  4. Potential impacts and benefits of DERs on sustainability and equity in the local context

Proposals should demonstrate innovative thinking and practical applications related to DERs in the District. This may include technological innovations, policy recommendations, community engagement strategies, or economic analyses.

Please approach this project with efficiency and cost effectiveness.

The showcase is open to undergraduate students enrolled in accredited institutions who have demonstrated an interest in clean energy and sustainability. Applications will be reviewed based on adherence to the criteria above and the quality of the project proposal.

Students must also be able to present their research topic in person on October 30, 2024, at the District of Columbia Clean Energy Summit in Washington, DC. There is no reimbursement for travel or research costs.
